~ For the last twenty-one years, San Isabel Land Protection Trust has helped to protect over 40,000 acres of important working ranches, agricultural and forest lands, water resources, wildlife habitat and scenic open spaces throughout southern Colorado. ~

We are a nationally accredited 501(c)3 non-profit, non-political conservation organization working with landowners to protect land, water, and wildlife while there is still time.

Position Overview

Join our dynamic and passionate conservation organization and live and work in one of the most beautiful areas of Colorado. San Isabel Land Protection Trust is hiring an executive director.

San Isabel Land Protection Trust seeks an Executive Director to implement our vision that southern Colorado remains a beautiful, wild and working landscape with a strong agricultural foundation and vibrant, healthy communities. Our mission is to protect ranch, farm and forest lands, wildlife habitat, scenic views for public enjoyment, and historic resources. By 2020, San Isabel aims to be a leader in land and water conservation in the Arkansas River Basin of Colorado. The position is based in Westcliffe in the spectacular Wet Mountain Valley.

Responsibilities

• Bring a passion for private land conservation with knowledge of the complex issues involved.
• Have some business background and an entrepreneurial approach to guide the organization through the changing tides of land conservation and the long-term obligations of conservation easements.
• Enthusiastically direct fundraising, membership development and stewardship.
• Have a strong understanding of the role media, communications and public relations play in operating a non-profit.
• Be comfortable with wearing the many hats needed to lead a small, rural non-profit.
• Have an understanding and empathy for challenges that face rural communities, coupled with an ability to listen and inspire an inclusive and collaborative approach.
• The Executive Director will work closely with the board of directors to ensure a vibrant and financially sustainable organization and supervise two full-time staff, inspiring them to excel in their respective areas of expertise while providing on-going mentorship, guidance and the tools they need to succeed.
• The successful individual will need to apply business practices to develop a profitable environmental services-consulting program for both easement holders and other entities in our service area – Custer, Fremont, Huerfano and western Pueblo counties in southern Colorado.
