Position Overview

Opinion Dynamics is looking for an inquisitive and enthusiastic employee to join our team of energy industry research professionals in San Diego, CA. We are looking for a jack-of-all trades, who enjoys blending qualitative and quantitative data to tell compelling stories and unearth actionable recommendations for clients. Our ideal candidate is someone who enjoys a challenge, relishes learning new things, and brings new ideas to the table.

Opinion Dynamics is the largest independently owned firm dedicated to energy industry program evaluation and market research. We’re an eclectic team of social scientists, MBAs, engineers, and data scientists. No two projects are the same. Our work includes evaluating savings from energy efficiency programs, estimating changes in electricity usage during peak periods, customer experience research, formative market research for new and existing programs, behavioral technology pilot assessments (e.g., smart thermostats), and advising on program design and implementation.

Consultants are at the core of our team, helping develop data collection instruments, collect and analyze data, and author valuable deliverables. We expect our consultants to deliver high quality work products. On each project, you will work with a team of experts who will share and guide your work and professional development.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

• Master’s degree in social science or similar area (e.g., Anthropology, Cognitive Science, International Studies, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, Urban Studies and Planning, Environmental Systems)
• Candidates with Bachelor’s degrees and applied research experience will be considered
• Coursework or applied experience in primary data collection (e.g., survey design, in-depth interviewing, focus groups, site visits)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
• Familiarity with SPSS or STATA statistical software
• Exceptional writing and communication skills

The ideal candidate will also have:

• Proficiency in STATA
• A few years of applied research experience in a professional setting
• Experience working in a consulting environment
• Data management and processing
• Professional or academic experience in the energy efficiency, demand response, smart grid, public policy, environmental consulting, or market research fields
