Position Overview

The Hampton University Department of Marine and Environmental Science (MES) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of assistant professor with specialization in marine or related sciences. This faculty position is co-funded by the NOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center in the Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program in the marine sciences, maintain the Marine Genetics laboratory, and teach two courses each semester in the Department of Marine and Environmental Science and Biological Science.
  • Additionally, the candidate will be expected to assist with graduate and undergraduate student research.
  • The position requires that the candidate contribute 50% of their time to the research mission and goals of the NOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold a PhD in the marine or related sciences.
  • Applicants with expertise in biological oceanography, marine genetics and molecular taxonomy, invertebrate biology, fisheries, population dynamics, zooplankton ecology, fisheries socioeconomics, marine policy, marine botany, or environmental science are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
