Scientific Certification Systems Named to Inc. 5000 List
Growth Confirms Need for Verification of Environmental Marketing Claims
Emeryville, CA, September 30, 2010 - Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), which certifies the environmental sustainability of products for well-known companies including The Home Depot, Starbucks and Steelcase, has ranked #1623 on Inc. Magazine's list of fastest growing private companies in America. The ranking follows a period of increased industry focus on corporate sustainability and explosive growth for SCS.
"We're excited to be recognized in the Inc. 5000. Not only because of our own growth, but because our success reflects the strong momentum of sustainable business," notes Dr. Stan Rhodes, President and CEO of SCS.
SCS, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, has been a pioneer in the sustainability field since its inception in 1983. The company has grown its revenue 176 percent over the past 3 years, from $5.3 million in 2007 to $14.5 million in 2009. During the same period, the number of staff grew from 31 to 85-- and SCS continues to hire new staff.
Rhodes believes a key reason for the company's success is its strict adherence to a scientific approach. "Our unbiased, no-nonsense methodology gives us an advantage over our competitors. In turn, certification from us gives our clients credibility in the marketplace."
SCS predicts continued growth for 2010. The down economy has highlighted the fact that sustainability isn't just a passing trend and that there is a need for trusted, science-based verification of environmental programs.
Inc. Magazine will be honoring SCS and other award recipients at the 2010 Inc. 500|5000 Conference & Awards Ceremony September 30-October 2 in Washington, D.C.
