"My participation in GCP gave me the tools and confidence that will allow me to utilize my operations and finance expertise in assisting companies to be both more environmentally friendly and fiscally responsible.  I recommend our certificate program to anyone who want to be 'in action'."                                        - Joan Simpson, former Verizon executive

  • POWERFUL IMMERSION EXPERIENCE IN COSTA RICA, THE MOST SUSTAINABLE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD

Through a partnership with INCAE University in Costa Rica, one of the world's top international business schools with a focus on sustainability research, FDU's program provides a deep life-changing experience.

       Overview:

After its phenomenally successful first program begun in fall 2009, FDU is proud to announce that its "Graduate Certificate Program in Managing Sustainability" is once again being jointly offered by the Institute for Sustainable Enterprise (ISE)  and INCAE in Costa Rica, This, 5-month tri- weekly certificate program offers a highly-interactive design and leverages participant experience and faculty expertise.  The program creates a powerful and practical, hands-on educational experience as well as a cohort- driven, sustainability-focused, executive network. Tailored for executives from corporations, consulting firms, and small businesses, the program will enable graduates to incorporate sustainability into their organizational and departmental strategies and operations for exceptional sustainability- aligned outcomes.

The program addresses state-of-the-art sustainability practice relevant to critical business areas. It is distinguished by a strong focus on developing leadership skills for sustainability action. Topics include global issues of sustainability and competitiveness, operations and supply chain issues, sustainability branding and marketing, sustainability metrics, management across boundaries, and project negotiation and change management. Additional emphasis includes international business and financial markets, the economy and the environment, environmental science and policy, natural resource conservation, eco-efficiency and renewable energy, responses to emerging markets and social-commercial alliances - plus the expanding role of non-profits, NGOs and communities in business.

Conducted at FDU's College at Florham, Madison, NJ, classes will be held on six  weekends (Friday afternoons and Saturdays) from September 2010 through January 2011, with an eight-day, study-abroad experience from October 31 through November 7, 2010, at INCAE Business School in Costa Rica. Participants will attend class in INCAE's sustainability program for management, which focuses on solving real-life case studies of company integration with sustainable development challenges. In addition, each participant will develop and execute a strategic, organizational sustainability project related to their own enterprise, working in partnership with a professional executive leadership coach who will provide an opportunity to practice new leadership and team development competencies.

According to ISE Executive Director, Joel Harmon, "After completing this powerful program, participants are able to incorporate sustainability into their overall organizational strategy as well as the plans and operations of every department in their organization."

Jeana Wirtenberg, former corporate HR executive, added "This program offers a wonderful opportunity for transformational leadership development, and opens up a wide spectrum of opportunities for career growth."

Participants receive a Certificate of Completion conferring 12 graduate-level credits. Both FDU's Silberman College of Business and INCAE have earned full accreditation from AACSB International.  The program is for graduate academic credit and qualified for corporate reimbursement (Note: Those in transition may be eligible for a $4,000 tuition grant from NJ DOL).    A prior undergraduate degree is required.  After completing the program, ISE sponsors special programs for graduates and other leaders in its network to exchange knowledge and experiences.
