Innovative Home Greening Program for Town of Huntington

Community Program will Target Energy Conservation Measures in 2000 Homes

LI Green, a not for profit organization, with offices in the Energy incubator at Stony Brook University and affiliated with the Advanced Energy Center, today announced they have been selected by the Town of Huntington, Long Island, to act as the lead agency in a town-wide Home Greening Program. This ground breaking program will provide services to 2000 Huntington families in the next two years.

"The time for talk about improving the energy efficiency of homes on Long Island is over," stated Chuck Schwartz, Director of LI Green. "For over two years LI Green has been fine tuning community programs to streamline the process of getting Long Island homes more energy efficient at the same time leveraging next generation technologies that will lower costs, improve transparency and improve outcomes. The Huntington program will expand that even further."

A major aspect of the Huntington initiative is LI Green's partnership with Enerpath (www.enerpath.com), a California based technology provider that has been providing large-scale energy efficiency programs nationwide for over ten years. EnerPath has software operating on wireless handheld computers that enables Energy Audit information to be electronically captured and analyzed immediately on-site. Within seconds, a custom report can be printed for homeowners, showing opportunities for energy efficiency savings. This data is then wirelessly communicated to real-time dashboards on EnerPath's web portal.

"Also significant in this program is our focus on providing services to all homeowners, not just those ready to hire a contractor," continued Mr. Schwartz. "The program will employ a a tiered service delivery approach to energy efficiency that has a track record of incredibly high customer enrollment and satisfaction nationwide.

We start with Tier 1 measures - low-cost, high-payback, easy to install home improvements. Homeowners immediately embrace energy efficiency and the associated energy savings. In this program LI Green will provide Huntington homeowners with a Free Tier 1 Home Energy Assessment.

Recommendations will be made on Tier 1 low-cost, quick-payback energy efficiency measures that can be delivered very quickly. At the same time homeowners will learn about comprehensive Tier 2 energy audits and other opportunities for energy savings throughout the home as well as financially supported programs like LIPA's Home Performance with Energy Star, NY State's Green Jobs Green Homes program and Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE Bonds) financing that they can enroll in to save even more energy. Finally the program will also provide education on advanced Tier 3 measures such renewable energy including solar and wind energy power alternatives."

"It is gratifying to see our local municipalities embracing programs which germinated at the Advanced Energy Center as an energy business and policy exploration. The Center coupled with LI Green staff planned deployment of these techniques for the benefit of the local community." said Yacov Shamash, Vice President for Economic Development and Dean of Engineering and Applied Science at Stony Brook University. "The work being done at the Advanced Energy Center is not just about next generation technologies, it's also about job creation and growing Long Island's economy while helping families better afford their energy needs. We're pleased that we can play a role in this important project."

Homeowners in Huntington can sign up for this program at www.ligreen.com/huntington or by calling 631-721-1908.
