A group of high-profile "ambassadors" has signed on to the 1% for the Planet movement, a global network of businesses that give at least 1% of their sales to organizations focused on sustainability.

1% for the Planet was launched by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard in late 2002 and now has more than 1,400 member companies in 44 countries around the world. The group says it is fast on the way to becoming the largest network of environmental funders on the planet.

Adding the Ambassador Program is part of an effort to continue growing the movement while broadening the personality and character of the 1% brand.

The program is designed to give influential people a platform to spread the message that companies and individuals have a responsibility to create reliable prosperity for the planet by investing in sustainability projects with non-profit partners.
