Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) is the latest company to offer electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for its customers.
The hotel chain has 25 "Level 2" charging stations available for use at several of its hotels, and plans an additional eight by the end of the year.
Level 2 stations provide 240 volts (AC) of electric current for faster vehicle charging than a standard wall plug (level 1), which has 110 volts.
If a customer wants to charge an electric vehicle at a property where a charging station isn't available, the hotel will make every effort to provide basic level 1 charging.
Installing EV chargers is emerging as a trend for environmentally proactive companies. In July, Walgreens and Ikea announced major initiatives to install EV chargers that customers can use while they shop.
Marriott also has three EVs in its global headquarters maintenance and security fleet.
The company is also greening its supply chain, working toward a goal of reducing energy and water consumption 25% per room by 2017, and expanding its portfolio of green hotels and buildings tenfold over the next four years.
