Korean solar company OSolar Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop photovoltaic (PV) projects in Brazil with the City of Taubaté, São Paulo.
Under the terms of the agreement, OSolar will conduct feasibility studies for the distributed generation projects, arrange project financing, and build power plants with a total capacity of 200 megawatts (MW), using a single-axis tracking system developed by OSolar.
The City of Taubaté, São Paulo has pledged to secure land for the projects and nominate OSolar for the City's--and furthermore South America's--first utility-scale PV project development and realization.
Roberto Pereira Peixoto, Mayor of the City of Taubate said the collaboration with OSolar will become a "historical case study across the nation."
OSolar says it has developed more than 100MW of solar, including Asia's largest single-axis PV power plant (24MWp) in Korea and projects in Japan, China, and the U.S. Currently, OSolar says it has a 1,000 MW project pipeline designated for the next 3 years, including projects in the U.S., Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, India and China.
Taubaté is a city in the State of São Paulo, in southeastern Brazil. The city has more than 306,000 inhabitants with five universities and has become an industrial center, seating branches of several companies, including Volkswagen, Ford, LG, EMBRAER, USIMINAS among many others.
