Politico: Dealing With Energy Policy in 'Chunks' May Not Work

A Politico.com story questions the wisdom (and chance of success) of approaching U.S. energy policy in a piecemeal fashion in 2011.

President Barack Obama told Rolling Stone magazine this month that energy policy would be one of his top priorities next year, but that it may have to be dealt with in "chunks" in order to pass anything significant through a reluctant Congress. 

But dealing with a major issue in pieces has big challenges of its own, including competing lobbyists and the habit of lawmakers to attach riders to smaller bills, ultimately slowing their progress. 

“It’s hard to imagine any substantive legislation passing, whether it’s chunks or comprehensive,” Eileen Claussen, president of the Pew Center on Global Climate Change and Strategies for the Global Environment, told Politico.
