Gamesa Turbines Chosen For Brazil Wind Farms

SustainableBusiness.com News

Spanish Wind Turbine maker Gamesa (GAM.MC) signed another major supply deal with Spanish renewable energy developer Iberdrola Renovables (IBR.MC).

Gamesa will supply 129 wind turbines over the next two years for nine wind farms Iberdrola Renovables plans to develop in Brazil.

The 2-megawatts (MW) turbines (G8X turbine model) have a total capacity of 258 MW.

The contract calls for Gamesa to supply, transport and erect the turbines and perform start-up and maintenance work over a two-year period.

The agreement comes two days after Iberdrola Renovables, in a venture with Neoenergía--a Brazilian energy holding company part-owned by the Iberdrola Group--won a bid to build 258 MW of installed wind capacity in Brazil's second tender process for the development of renewable energies. The tender was called by Brazil’s electricity industry authority, Agencia Nacional de Energía Elétrica (ANEEL).

Gamesa also is supplying turbines for Iberdrola projects in Honduras and New York.

The latest supply agreement is the first for Gamesa in Brazil, where the company recently opened its subsidiary in the Mercosur in Sao Paulo.

Gamesa has disembarked in six new markets in Europe, Latin America and Africa this year alone, the company said in a release.

With 30 manufacturing facilities in Europe, the USA, China and India, and 4,400 MW of annual manufacturing capacity, Gamesa has an international workforce of more than 6,300 people.
