NRG Solar to Acquire Development Portfolio from US Solar

SustainableBusiness.com News

NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG), through its subsidiary, NRG Solar, has agreed to purchase the solar development portfolio of US Solar, an affiliate of Arclight Capital Partners LLC.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

The portfolio projects range in size from 20 megawatts (MW) to 99 MW and are spread across nine sites in California and Arizona.

The acquisition nearly doubles NRG Solar’s projects under development to 1,150 MW.

The projects have the potential to be operational between 2011 and 2013.

Last week NRG announced the purchase of a 101-MW wind farm near Sweetwater, Texas.

In January, NRG sold its wind development company Padoma Wind Power to Enel North America.

In addition to renewable energy development, NRG is also building a demonstation carbon capture project, supported with $154 million from the U.S. Department of Energy.
