Cleantech Helps Push Dow Above 11,000

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 11,000 this week for the first time since the beginning of the global recession that drove markets down a year and a half ago.

Higher prices for cleantech stocks contributed to the rise, according to a New York Times article, which credits increased oil prices, the 40th anniversary of Earth Day and a revived effort to pass climate change legislation in the US Congress.

Stocks of solar companies and manufacturers of energy-efficiency technology did remarkably well, despite warnings that government subsidies are likely to decrease in the near- to mid-term.
