Postal Service Could Boost EVs

SustainableBusiness.com News

UQM Technologies, Inc. (NYSE Amex: UQM), announced that it has received an order from Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. (Nasdaq: QTWW) for a propulsion system to be incorporated into Quantum’s Quiet™ battery electric drive system to power an electric delivery vehicle for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS).

The vehicle, which will be based on the widely used Grumman Long Life Vehicles (LLV), is being developed under a one year demonstration and validation program to be conducted by the USPS in Washington, D.C.

The project could pave the way to broad adoption of battery electric vehicles in the USPS fleet, which consists of 178,000 LLVs.

The USPS has the largest civilian fleet in the country, and a transition to electric vehicles could give the US EV industry a significant boost.

UQM Technologies, Inc. is a developer and manufacturer of electric motors, generators and power electronic controllers for the automotive, aerospace, military and industrial markets. The Company’s headquarters, engineering and product development center, and motor manufacturing operation are located in Frederick, Colorado.
