Walmart Selects Cree's LEDs for 650 Stores

SustainableBusiness.com News

Walmart has selected Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) to supply LED lighting for 650 stores - the efficiency lighting will replace ceramic metal halide lights in the produce and electronics departments.

Cree's LED lamp was selected for its energy-efficiency, long life, controlled beam and high color-rendition. Designed to last 50,000 hours, the lamp uses 82% less energy than the 70-Watt ceramic metal halide bulbs it replaces and can last over five years in a 24/7 operating environment. Its unique design reduces glare and focuses attention on the merchandise, not the lighting.

Walmart will install the LEDs within a year in this first order.
