Lobbying Firm Forged Letters Opposing Climate Change Bill

SustainableBusiness.com News

Washington lobbying firm Bonner & Associates admitted forging letters to freshman Representative Tom Perriello (D-Va.), opposing passage of the Waxman-Markey climate change bill.

The firm sent a half-dozen letters with similar language from fake members of the NAACP and Latino group Creciendo Juntos.

The firm said a temporary employee, who has been let go, was responsible for the faked letters. However, Representative Ed Markey (D-Mass.) said Friday his Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming would investigate the matter.

In a news release following the vote on the climate bill, the National Republican Congressional Committee said that Perriello had demonstrated an "utter lack of concern" for middle-class families in his district, according to an Associated Press report.
