Four international airlines have banded together to support a plan to reduce global warming emissions produced by the industy.
Air France/KLM (AIRF.PA), British Airways (BAY.L), Cathay Pacific (0293.HK), Virgin Atlantic [VA.UL], airport operator BAA (FER.MC) and international NGO The Climate Group have proposed a deal that covers all carbon pollution from the international aviation sector.
This marks the first time airline companies have joined forces to make recommendations to the United Nation's climate change officials. The proposal is to be presented to climate change negotiators in Bonn, Germany today.
The airline industry is responsible for about 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
