Ascent Solar Begins Regular Production of Thin FIlm Modules

SustainableBusiness.com News

Ascent Solar (Nasdaq: ASTI) a developer of flexible thin-film solar modules, announced it has begun regular production on its line in Littleton, Colorado.

This milestone makes Ascent Solar the first company to commence production of fully integrated lightweight thin-film CIGS modules using a plastic substrate, the company said.

Ascent Solar initially plans to operate the manufacturing line with one shift, progressing to full-scale 1.5-megawatt (MW) capacity utilizing three manufacturing shifts per day.

"This is a remarkable step for the advancement of thin film CIGS on a flexible substrate and the company has worked very hard to achieve this milestone," Dr. Mohan Misra, CEO of Ascent Solar said.

Bruce Berkoff, Ascent Solar's chief marketing officer, said, "Modules produced from this line will accelerate product development with our strategic partners in multiple market segments."

Over the last year, Ascent Solar has partnered with European companies for the development and distribution of new building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) roofing products. These companies include Texsa S.A. of Spain, Icopal SAS of France, and Giscosa Sociedad Limitada of Spain.
