Silver Spring Networks, Pepco Holdings To Build Smart Grid

Silver Spring Networks (SSN) announced today that it has been selected by Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI)(NYSE: POM) to provide advanced networking products and services to build a Smart Grid network that will serve its 1.9 million customers in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington D.C.

Silver Spring Networks and PHI have signed a definitive agreement and deployment activity is underway. according to a release. Initial deployments will occur in the Delmarva Power & Light service territory in Delaware, with full deployment to all PHI customers anticipated by 2013, pending regulatory approvals. Under the multi-year agreement, Silver Spring Networks will provide network infrastructure, devices, software and a variety of services in support of PHI's efforts.

PHI selected SSN's Smart Energy Network in support of its Blueprint for the Future initiative encompassing a variety of Smart Grid solutions, including advanced metering, distribution monitoring and control and home automation. Silver Spring Networks provides an open, secure, proven networking platform that will enable PHI to realize current goals as well as additional operational and environmental benefits in the future.
