Duke Energy To Build First Nevada Wind Farm

SustainableBusiness.com News

North Carolina-based Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) wants to build Nevada's first wind farm, according to a report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Duke Energy said the 300-megawatt project could cost up to $600 million, take six to eight months to build.

According to the report, Nevada's main utility, NV Energy, also has plans for a wind farm in northeastern Nevada and southern Idaho that would have a capacity of 200 MW.

Duke Energy executive Robert Charlebois said his company would erect up to 150 wind turbines on 25,000-acres controlled by the Bureau of Land Management near Searchlight, Nevada.

Charlebois says it could take until March 2011 to get regulatory approval.
