New Solar Incentive for San Fran Residents, Businesses

SustainableBusiness.com News

A new Solar Energy Incentive Program has been approved in San Francisco to encourage the addition of 35 megawatts of solar power across the city over the next 10 years.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance establishing the program, which will allocate between $2 million and $5 million of funds per year from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

Under the program residents can receive from $3,000 to $6,000, in addition to federal incentives, for new solar power installations, and businesses can receive up to $10,000. Residents or businesses choosing local installers for their systems will receive higher levels of funding.

Before going into effect, the program must be passed in another vote taking place June 11.
