U.S. Labor Wants American-Made Mandates in Climate Change Legislation

U.S. labor unions have recognized a once-in-a-generation opportunity to rebuild the nation's struggling manufacturing sector through participation in the clean-energy movement, according to a Politico report.

However, moves by union lobbyists to insert made-in-the-USA requirements into climate change legislation being considered by Congress have disturbed some in the green community, who want to see clean technology built and deployed in tariff-free, global fashion.

Currently, the two groups form a shaky collaboration supporting cap-and-trade legislation, such as the Lieberman-Warner bill, but the two sides could create a rift in the Democratic party as debate on the legislation heats up.
