Manhattan-Sized Reservoir to Rehabilitate Everglades

The Army Corp of Engineers is building a 26-square mile reservoir, above ground level, to store 62 billion gallons of rainwater as part of a massive project aimed at rehabilitating Florida's Everglades wetlands.

A century's worth of development and flood-control canals have drained much of the ecosystem, which once spanned 6,250 square miles. The $800 million reservoir is just part of a multi-billion plan to restore large sections of wildlife habitat and reverse the disruptive effects of regional development.
