Truck and SUV Sales Falling Steeply

The era of the American truck may be over.
General Motors (NYSE: GM), Ford (NYSE: F) and Chrysler (NYSE: DCX) saw double digit declines in sales last month, as high gas prices made trucks and SUVs much less attractive to consumers, according to a Washington Post report.
Toyota's sales climbed 3% during the same period.
GM reported a 27% decline in truck and SUV sales that overshadowed increases in car and crossover sales, as well as the company's best-ever month for hybrid sales. Overall sales were down 16% compared to April 2007.
