Canada to Create New 1.9M-Acre Park

SustainableBusiness.com News

Canada has plans to create a new national park that would encompass some 1.9 million acres (7,600 square km), Environment Minister John Baird said on Monday.

The Naats'ihch'oh National Park Reserve will be adjacent to the larger Nahanni National Park Reserve and will include the watershed of the South Nahanni river in the Northwest Territories.

The area is a habitat for grizzly bear, Dall's sheep and woodland caribou, among other species.

"With this historic agreement announced today, we are once again taking action to protect Canada's North for future generations," Baird said in a statement.
