We were founded in 2006 to manage EPEAT, the largest global rating system for greener electronics, that is used by purchasers in 43 countries. GEC works with global electronics brands and large scale purchasers to facilitate their adoption of sustainable manufacturing and procurement systems. Position Overview 

The Opportunity: 

While GEC is a mission driven nonprofit, our timeline mirrors the dynamic technology sector. As technologies innovate, GEC must help define what makes them sustainable, make them
available on our global rating system, and then educate large-scale purchasers about the availability and benefits of sustainable electronics.

The Director of Finance will play a key role in revising the revenue model of the global rating system, including the launch of new product categories, and develop business models to support GEC's additional programs. GEC is currently launching programs in sustainable cloud computing and addressing social impacts within the electronics supply chain. 

The Position: 

The Director of Finance (DF) oversees the organization's finances and is a member of the Executive Management Team, serving as an active participant in setting and carrying out GEC's overall strategy and providing operational support for the organization. The DF carries out their responsibilities consistent with GEC's values of collaboration, innovation and transparency. 

Responsibilities  

The position is responsible for overseeing all financial functions including accounting, budget, insurance, tax, and treasury: 

  • Manages the accounting process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting; prepares financial analysis, overseas activities of external auditors. Manages part-time accountant.
  • Leads the annual budget process; participates in decision-making about budget revisions; performs budget to actual analysis of revenue on a monthly basis and provides
  • commentary of major variances.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of revenue models; uses independent data to verify revenue related declarations made by participating stakeholders.
  • Develops and implements effective internal controls and related policies; drafts Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), templates and process documents; delivers staff training
  • on matters related to DF responsibilities.
  • Contributes to evaluation of contracts and other agreements with outside parties; ensures compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required. MBA, CPA or other advanced credential strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in a relevant role required. Experience managing accounting function required.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with US federal government contracting and/or other public procurement programs desired.
  • Experience working with high-level executives and comfort with serving as part of an Executive Management Team.
  • Sense of personal ownership; committed to the process, quality work products, and delivering results on time.
  • Skilled in building trust with others through demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards and proactive communications; able to keep colleagues, team members and
  • other key players informed in a timely manner.
  • Well-organized; ability to prioritize and multi-task in a busy, dynamic, ever-changing environment; hands-on and purposeful. Insight to anticipate problems and create new
  • and innovative solutions.
  • Love of technology and all things that beep.
  • Personal desire to improve the environmental and social status of our world. 

Compensation: Competitive salary to the low six figures, based on experience, and a comprehensive benefit
package.
