Teacher Naturalist

Catholic Youth Organization / CYO Camp

Occidental, CA

Nat. Resources/ Restoration

Skill Level: Entry level

Position Type: Full Time

~ Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Camp offers two environmental education programs that together present an extensive outdoor education experience for all students. ~

CYO Outdoor Environmental Education presents a curriculum that is strongly integrated with schools' science classes and is aligned with the California K-12 curriculum guidelines.

Students observe, explore, and discover in our outdoor classroom, as our staff facilitate learning through ecological studies, games and activities. CYO Camp supports teachers by complementing classroom instruction and enabling students to develop positive self-concepts and peer relationships that transfer back to the classroom.

Caritas Creek at CYO Camp is a comprehensive, 5-day residential environmental education experience for young people. The camp facility sits among 220 acres of Coastal Redwoods near the town of Occidental, California, only 70 miles north of San Francisco.

We offer a blend of age-appropriate science curriculum and retreat style activities fostering social, spiritual, and academic development for youth from diverse backgrounds. One unique aspect of the program is the faith community-building experience of Caritas, where focus is placed on recognizing the individual's unique gifts and strengths. Through hands-on exploration, Caritas endeavors to illuminate the divine in all things and build empathy and understanding for the natural world.
