Position Overview

The School of Arts & Sciences at SUNY Potsdam is accepting on-line applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies who will begin fall 2017 and bring an interdisciplinary perspective, a commitment to place-based learning, and a willingness to develop and integrate students into regional research and teaching opportunities.

Job Requirements & Essential Functions of the Job:

We are seeking a faculty member committed to quality undergraduate teaching and advising, scholarly activity, professional growth and development, and service. The teaching load is 24 credits per year and the position requires teaching core program requirements, supervision of students placed in field research and internships, and involvement in the college's fall semester Adirondack Learning Community.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Environmental Studies or a related discipline is required by August 1, 2017.
  • Areas of specialization will be considered to the extent that they complement and extend the current strengths of the program.
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary breadth bringing humanistic and social perspectives to bear on environmental issues is essential.
  • In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • We are especially seeking candidates who have worked with, done research with, or taught under-represented groups and have worked collaboratively across various departments in fostering success of underrepresented groups. 
  • Graduate study in interdisciplinary environmental studies or sustainability is also preferred.
