Position Overview  

We're seeking candidates to fill the position of Packaging Design Engineer.

  • Plan and coordinate the technical and management aspects of the package development.
  • Lead packaging design and improvement, working cross functionally to drive packaging related initiatives while complementing environmental sustainability, lean operations, and branding goals.
  • Manage assigned Package Development projects, working with Brand and project teams, to meet category objectives and project due dates.
  • Hold discussions during product team meetings, communicate technical issues and details to the project team and management.
  • Provide packaging options. Develop, engineer, and test packaging components and modify as necessary to meet: consumer requirements, functional parameters, cost targets, manufacturing & shipping requirements.
  • Provide technical input to package design process and assure package designed for manufacturing acceptability and assembling, while realizing desirable aesthetic elements.
  • Execute new package designs and perform package component testing and qualification, working with suppliers, from engineering prints to making models & prototypes, through to unit and production tooling.
  • Work effectively with Suppliers, and Manufacturing to assure the creation of timely functional specifications.
  • Prioritize, manage, quantify, track, and report all packaging development projects. Continuously improve existing methods and processes to facilitate efficient delivery of high quality products to customers.
  • Confirms packaging design by conferring and collaborating with product line managers, developers, production, and marketing departments.
  • Record packaging material attributes and specifications in the PLM data base system. 
  • Provide support in a cross functional manner with other departments when presented with quality issues related to packaging. 


Education & Experience 

  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Package or equivalent engineering degree or equivalent experience in managing packaging development projects.
  • Valid passport.
  • Minimum of 2 years of package development experience required, ideally with consumer products companies.
  • Knowledge of packaging components and properties such as; pumps, closures, bottles, tubes, flexible films and lamination, paperboard (folding cartons, cards, labels) plastic processing (injection and extrusion blow molding and cast and blown films
  • Design Skills, Packaging, Mechanical Packaging, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Process Improvement, Technical Understanding, Legal Compliance, Documentation Skills, CAD, CAD/CAM Circuit Design.
  • Knowledge of material handling and flow principles, standard test methods such as ASTM and protocols, transportation and logistics.
