Position Overview 

ValleyCAN needs Climate Corps fellows to manage the Enhanced Fleet Modernization Program Plus-Up (EFMP Plus-Up). EFMP Plus-Up replaces the dirtiest cars in disadvantaged communities with used plug-in and hybrid vehicles. 

Fellows will be involved with every aspect of operating EFMP Plus-Up including community outreach, identifying customers, confirming customer qualifications, completing the vehicle transaction, and further developing/operating a specialized Salesforce CRM system to track and report program data. 

This is an opportunity to join a well-established and respected community organizing program that creates direct climate benefits. ValleyCAN will work closely with the Fellows to scale up the program to meet a major budget increase.  

Responsibilities for Two Current Openings 

Community Representatives (6 Fellows) - Pairs of Fellows will be stationed in Bakersfield, Fresno and Modesto/Stockton to lead outreach and program qualification in coordination with our broad coalition of community groups. In this position, you will: 

  • Network with community partners to promote Valley CAN's programs
  • Attend biweekly Tune In & Tune Up events to staff the EFMP tent
  • Educate EFMP customers on the program and the benefits of advanced-technology vehicles
  • Collect and process customer paperwork to determine eligibility
  • Schedule and accompany customers to their vehicle transactions
  • Arrange with dismantler for retired vehicles to be picked up and scrapped
  • Enter customer data and documentation into the Salesforce system

Salesforce System Managers (6 Fellows) - These positions will be based in ValleyCAN's Sacramento office to work with our technical team to build out and operate the Salesforce back-end system that collects and tracks all program data. In this position, you will: 

  • Help to develop a comprehensive Salesforce system that collects, stores and reports EFMP data and documentation
  • Coordinate with the Community Representative team to ensure that customers are accurately qualified and that all documentation is collected and captured
  • Output reports on program metrics to enable continuous improvements
  • Find additional uses for API data to improve program targeting and reporting
  • Work with the Community Representative team at Tune In & Tune Up weekend events to educate customers and help them start the EFMP Plus-Upprocess
  • Assist as needed in the field at car dealerships to complete customer transactions
  • Help the programming team to develop apps to integrate with other climate and environmental programs from federal, state, local, utilities, etc. to enable a "one application, many programs" one-stop shop for disadvantaged communities to access as many benefit programs as are available and appropriate


The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Experience and interest in building and using digital systems to empower community organizing;
  • A balance between technical proficiency and people skills; and
  • Willing to work hard to deliver climate benefits to disadvantaged communities. 

Required Skill Set: 

  • Experience with Salesforce systems -- Salesforce Certified a plus;
  • Programming experience a plus;
  • Strong skills with Microsoft suite including Word, Excel and Outlook;  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills;
  • Ability to logically troubleshoot problems and develop creative solutions;
  • Resourceful and self-directing; and
  • Valid State of California Driver's License and access to vehicle. 

Compensation & Benefits 

  • Living allowance stipend of $1,750 per month (before taxes).
