Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a national environmental nonprofit organization, seeks a part-time Program Assistant for our Western Regional office in San Francisco.
This is a great opportunity for a grad school student or recent graduate interested in trails and greenways, and how they facilitate active transportation, recreation and livable communities.
The position is 15-20 hours per week, and begins in late May, 2013. The salary is $15/hour and does not include benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Event planning for walking and biking events;
- Provide technical assistance to trail partners on trail planning, design and maintenance issues;
- Provide research support for our trail related publications, blog, e-news and website;
- Assist with policy advocacy, outreach and organizing activities relating to our recreation and active transportation policy campaigns;
- Assist with foundation research and proposal writing; provide general administrative support.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be highly organized and detail-oriented; some experience in transportation planning, environmental policy, and/or political organizing and campaign work; demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for trails/open space/biking & walking issues; must be resourceful and able to work independently.
Sense of humor and flexibility to help where needed are essential!
