The Energy Center at Appalachian State University was established in 2001 to conduct energy research and applied program activities in a multi-disciplinary environment. The Center, working through faculty, staff and students, has programs in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy technology, biofuels, policy analysis, forecasting, and economic development.
Position Overview:
The Appalachian State University Energy Center invites applications for the position of Research Analyst. The primary duties of this position are to perform public policy research and analysis, and to develop and manage applied programs related to energy and climate policy.
Responsibilities:
In addition to other assigned responsibilities, the Research Analyst will:
- Conduct economic and policy analyses, write reports, and serve as an information resource on matters related to energy and climate policy;
- Develop and maintain a program of work on energy and climate policy through the research, compilation, and analysis of data on, but not limited to energy markets, emerging technologies, and energy and climate-related policies and regulations;
- Create resources, such as fact sheets, white papers and case studies, to assist public and private sectors including state and local governments, electric and natural gas utilities, and nongovernmental organizations;
- Perform a variety of policy and program development activities ranging in scope from program design and development through implementation.
Qualifications:
The position requires knowledge of conventional and renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate-related environmental policies and technologies; excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to conduct economic and policy analyses on energy and climate policy; the ability to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships and maintain professional conduct; and a strong ability to manage a range of work activities with overlapping and demanding deadlines.
The position requires a minimum of a master's degree in public policy, economics, public administration or related field and at least 2 years of experience in economic and policy analysis in areas related to energy issues or areas closely related to the job responsibilities and duties.
