The Duke University Corporate Sustainability Initiative (CSI), a joint endeavor between the Fuqua School of Business, the Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences, and the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy and Solutions, is seeking an Executive Director to launch the Initiative.
CSI will serve as the bridge between business practitioners, environmental scientists and policy makers to produce and disseminate knowledge and foster action that enables corporations to embrace and implement environmentally sustainable practices. CSI will bring together leading scholars, students and practitioners from within Duke and beyond to address critical issues, develop strategies and tools, and enhance leadership capacity in corporate sustainability. CSI will exemplify the University's overarching mission of knowledge in service to society.
Duke University, ranked #8 by U.S. News & World Report, is a multifaceted, private university of global stature that occupies a 9,000-acre campus in Durham, NC. Approximately 13,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students attend Duke which employs close to 1,700 faculty.
The Duke libraries, with more than 5 million volumes, rank among the top 10 private research libraries in the United States. Duke University Press publishes about 120 new books each year and more than 30 scholarly journals.
Life on Duke's campus is rich academically and athletically: the Duke men's basketball team is consistently ranked among the nation's elite and won the national championship in 1991, 1992 and 2001.
The Fuqua School of Business began in 1970 with a class of 12 and is consistently among the top ranked business schools in the world. Today, approximately 1,340 students are enrolled in its various degree programs. These programs include The Duke MBA (daytime) program, The Duke MBA - Global Executive program, The Duke MBA Weekend Executive program, The Duke MBA - Cross Continent program, The Duke Goethe Executive MBA program, and the Ph.D. program. In addition, more than 1,000 managers and executives of leading firms worldwide attend Fuqua's non-degree Executive Education programs each year. Central to Fuqua's mission is educating students who will become leaders of consequence, addressing the major issues of the 21st century around global health, the environment and poverty.
The Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences is one of the world's premier graduate and professional schools for the interdisciplinary study of the environment and development of pathways for a sustainable future. The school is composed of three divisions: Marine Science and Conservation, Earth and Ocean Sciences, and Environmental Sciences and Policy. More than 70 faculty members hold appointments at the Nicholas School which offers Master of Environmental Management and Master of Forestry degrees plus executive and continuing education through the Duke Environmental Leadership Program.
The Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy and Solutions, launched in 2005, addresses the demand for timely, unbiased policy analysis relevant to the world's pressing environmental concerns. It works in conjunction with Duke faculty and students, as well as partners outside Duke's walls, to produce the research and policy design that best informs decisions by the government, private sector, and nonprofit community on environmental matters. It seeks to act as an "honest broker" in policy debates by fostering open, ongoing dialogue between stakeholders on all sides of the issues and policy-relevant analysis based on academic research.
