Position Summary
The Development Department of the World Resources Institute (WRI) is seeking a dynamic, energetic, highly motivated person to fill the position of Development Coordinator.
This position will provide programmatic, communication, and administrative support to staff in the foundation, government (including U.S., foreign aid agencies and multilateral organizations), and individual funding sectors. This position offers a valuable opportunity to learn about fundraising strategy and donor cultivation and stewardship.
Ideal candidate will be comfortable working on a fast-paced team with multiple projects, activities, and deadlines that require the ability to juggle competing priorities. S/he will be very detail oriented and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
Major Responsibilities: Assist WRI's Foundation, Government, and Individual Donor Sector staff with:
Research and Writing
Drafting and editing proposals, reports, letters of acknowledgement, and other documents
Develop and update prospect research reports and institutional funding profiles using internet, print, and electronic sources, as well as in-house files and interviews with staff
Prepare related presentations and visual aids
Donor Stewardship and Outreach
Manage the production of WorldView, WRI's monthly donor newsletter, including development, drafting and editing of stories, carrying out staff interviews, and managing all stages of design, production and distribution
Manage mailing lists and coordinate stewardship and donor appeal mailings
Coordination and Administrative support
Provide general administrative support to the Foundation, Government, and Individuals staff, i.e. scheduling meetings, meeting preparation and follow up, arrange travel, prepare/submit expense reports, process invoices and check requests, and other administrative paperwork as needed
Maintain and update donor information and contact in donor database (Raiser's Edge)
Update and maintain sector-relevant information on Development Department Wiki
Backstop other department program coordinator as needed
Qualifications
1-2 years of experience working in a fast-paced office environment (requirement may be met through internships)
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
Detail oriented, strong organizational skills, particularly the ability to prioritize
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, as well as to work individually and as a member of a team
Ability to sift through large amounts of data, and identify and analyze specific information relating to wealth capacity, programmatic connections, and philanthropic inclination is critical.
Proficiency in MS Office required
Knowledge of Raiser's Edge database and In-Design or other design software a plus
Opportunities
This is a fast paced, busy department in a well respected environment and development institution. This position will provide significant insight into and understanding about various aspects of non-profit fundraising, including the solicitation process involved in researching, identifying, and soliciting potential new funders, and the cultivation and stewardship of existing donors. It will also provide an opportunity to gain more in-depth knowledge about the foundation, U.S. and foreign government, and individuals sectors.
It is a great introduction into the business side of a non-profit organization. The Coordinator will also receive considerable exposure to the programs at WRI (see below). He/She will have the opportunity to attend brownbags and presentations by in-house and external experts in various fields related to environment, development, and communications. The large number of interns and young staff present a fun working environment.
Salary and benefits: Mid to high $30s, commensurate with experience, excellent benefits package.
