Business Advisory Program
The Business Advisory Program provides business advice and assistance to businesses located in or hiring from target areas. Advisors are experienced, active business professionals who provide expertise and advice to guide entrepreneurs through the business development process. Because we recognize the extraordinary potential of these relationships to help fuel entrepreneurship and business growth in target communities, business advising represents the cornerstone of SVCV's services.
Loans
SVCV provides loans to businesses that create jobs and economic growth in low-income Bay Area communities. Sources of funds are available to select entrepreneurs with a demonstrated potential for stable growth and a commitment to meeting SVCV's social criteria. Qualifying businesses must meet several eligibility requirements that include: location in a low-income community or employment of residents from a low-income community and a successful history with an SVCV business advisor. Loan applications are assessed for several factors, including data and projections that indicate an ability to repay the loan, and a good business and personal credit rating.
Equity Financing
SVCV makes equity investments in select companies. SVCV conducts an extensive due diligence process to evaluate a company's potential for sustainability and growth, and to assess whether an identifiable exit strategy exists. Employee ownership is an important philosophy which SVCV pursues when it provides equity.
Resource Network
SVCV helps entrepreneurs access top quality tools, services and information, and share learning and knowledge across communities. These resources include: networking forums, business planning tools, software, equipment, training courses, legal services, public relations support, and employee recruiting and retention services.
SVCV targets new and developing businesses throughout the Northern California Bay Area. Target communities include: East and South San Jose, East Palo Alto, San Francisco, and Oakland.
