The Pickens Plan is a great idea for the near future, but really does not address the present. If, by the time I finish typing this, someone were to develop some super fuel efficient method of moving goods and people, it would be years befor the new method could be the main way we move ourselves and our goods. The existing fleet of vehicles in the US alone approximates some 300 million vehicles, all of which burn either gasoline or diesel fuel in compressed air as their motive power.
These vehicles CANNOT and WILL NOT be replaced in an instant. To obtain our energy freedom, we MUST develop a fuel system which is AFFORDABLE, which is EASY TO CONVERT the EXISTING fleet of 300 million vehicles to, is RELIABLE, which uses LESS THAN HALF of the fossil fuel, does not pollute the environment, and is readily available.
Burning Hydrogen in Oxygen is one answer. Burning Hydrogen in Oxygen yields WATER! Water can br broken down ON THE VEHICLE to produce Hydrogen & Oxygen in the required ratio, fed into the engine along with air and fossil fuel, and mileage will be very significantly increased. The cost per passenger car/light truck should be well under $1,000 installed.
There are a few technical problems to be solved yet. On the newer vehicles, the adaptive memory in the vehicle's computer "fights" the system. On older vehicles, the problem is less severe. We need funding to do the research to overcome this problem, as well as tool for mass production and distribution of a system which will need almost no attention by the driver to maintain, other than adding water every 500 miles or so.
