Control4, Lockheed Combine Home Energy Management Technologies

Control4, a developer of IP-based home control systems, and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) announced an agreement to combine their proprietary technologies to create a comprehensive residential energy control system.

The system will integrate Lockheed Martin’s SEEload(TM) Demand Response Management solution with the Control4(R) Energy Management System 100 (EMS 100). The system is designed to give consumers greater control over their energy usage and enable utilities to deploy a demand response (DR) platform to reduce peak loads on the electric grid.

"Demand response is increasingly viewed as an essential way to meet growing demand, to comply with peak load and emissions reduction targets, and to help customers control energy costs," said Larry Easton, director of Ventures for Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Services-Defense.

SEEload is one of Lockheed Martin’s SEEsuite Smart Grid Command and Control(TM) applications that allow utilities and independent system operators to manage demand response events across an entire distribution network.

Control4’s EMS 100 is designed to help utilities drive efficiency and DR programs. It includes an in-home energy controller interface, and a ZigBee HA wireless thermostat. The system gives consumers with real-time information about their energy usage and costs and can be coupled with other smart devices throughout a house.
